Stumble (Poem)

Doctrine and Covenants 128:22 - "...shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward ..."

A man walked a lonely road
from where he'd gone, back to his home.

The path was beaten, yet in spite,
there were no other trav'lers in sight.

The man expected to walk alone,
the heat rising as the sun shone.

Brambles, twisted, blocked his path,
cut his flesh, and made him gasp

A cliff to climb, a drop to leap,
determination, his mind did keep.

But once the man gave his all
he stumbled with a mighty fall.

He rose not first, for this was his last,
he couldn't count the times of past.

More steps, more landscape, more rain,
he stumbled, fell, rose last again.

Failure was not in the pause,
but not pushing forward in the cause.

The man still walks, his back straight,
shoulders set, a steady gait.
